OPEIU Local 9

Local 9 has more than 600 people just like you located in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa. The bargaining units range in size from 1 person to more than 200. Local 9 is a democratically run organization owned and operated by its members. The members elect its officers and also the people who serve on the Executive Board.

WHAT IS THE EXEUTIVE BOARD?

The Executive Board consists of thirteen (13) Union members and officers elected by the membership to serve and conduct the affairs of the Union in the intervals between general membership meetings. It is empowered to authorize and perform all acts for the conduct of the Union’s business between such membership meetings.

WHO CAN BE ON THE EXECUTIVE BOARD?

Any member who has been a member for at least one year can be elected by the membership to serve on the Executive Board. Any member who has been a member for at least one year may run for office. The officers and Executive Board of Local 9 consist of a president, vice-president, secretary-treasurer, recording secretary, three (3) trustees and six (6) at-large Board members.

The membership employs one Business Manager plus an Administrative Assistant to assist the membership in the daily business of your Union. Local 9 has legal counsel on retainer.

WHAT IS THE DUES STRUCTURE FOR LOCAL NINE?

Members pay dues in the amount of two times their hourly wage with the wage rounded to the nearest $.50. For example, if you earn $15.09 an hour it would be rounded up to $15.50, double that is $31.00 a month for dues. If you earn $15.76 an hour it would be rounded up to $16, double that and the monthly dues is $32.00. There is a cap of $51.50 a month for dues.

WHAT BENEFITS ARE AVAILABLE TO OPEIU MEMBERS?

Members of OPEIU are eligible for a free $2,500 accidental death and disability benefit. Members have access to a Union Privilege card and added benefits through Union Privilege. Additionally, members will receive a Towing/Service Calls card.
